Distress Foiling by Sean Fetterman
Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Hi everyone! I am very happy to be with you today hosting a CardMaker blog post. I want to share a fun technique that I have been playing with that I call ?Distress Foiling.? I have a friend that loves everything with a distressed look and recently she did something really sweet for me. I wanted to make her a thank you card using Gina K Designs Fancy Foils, but I could not figure out how to blend the foils with distressing. Then an accident happened and a light switch clicked in my head! Isn?t that how it always happens? The best ideas come from making a mistake it seems!

I wanted to do a tone-on-tone color for this technique to make it subtle but still have a powerful impact. By using a chunky stamp, the image seems more distressed than a fine detailed stamp would have been.

The key to foiling with stamps is the correct adhesive. Since the compound in foiling is customarily from what you would find in an inkjet printer, the next best thing is something like what I am using in this technique which is Them O Web?s Deco Foil Transfer Gel.

There is nothing like adding a little shimmer and shine to an envelope when you are sending a greeting. In this technique, I have foiled the focal image to the matching envelope!

Click the video below to watch the tutorial on how I created this card using the Distressed Foiling technique! (Editor?s Note: If you?re reading this in an email, click here to view the video.) Don?t forget to watch out for some fun things coming up featuring more of me on CardMaker’s social media channels and in the magazine soon! We will be having some fun and I will be working to engage more with you and designers in our community! I am looking forward to getting to know you all!

Thank you for stopping by and have a great day!

Sean
