Dawn’s Celebrate & Decorate: Sugar Scrub Jar
Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Hi! Dawn here to share a little something I designed to show the versatility of the tools of my trade—namely cardstock, ink, stamps and dies. They?re not just for card making, you know! Get creative and if you can?t get creative, get on Pinterest. That?s where I saw an idea similar to what I’m sharing with you today. Some of you might know that we?re expecting our 11th grandbaby in June and just found out it?s a girl! And that means a baby shower with all the cutsie things for a little girl and the necessities, but how about a little something for the mom-to-be, too.

I don?t know if you?re like me, but if I have store bought jam that came in a cute jar, I?m saving that jar knowing that someday I?ll repurpose it! And that?s just what I did for my “Pink Grapefruit Sugar Scrub.” Note: I’ve included the recipe for this scrub at the end of this post so you can make some of your own! But the jar needs a label, right? Who says it has to be on the side?! The lid is a perfect place to decorate!

I started by measuring the lid to see what dies would fit. Then on a computer, I typed the poem accordingly. For this particular jar, I needed the poem to fit inside a 2 3/4-inch circle and used Photoshop Elements.

I held the die in place with a sticky note to run through my die-cutting machine.

I stamped the image in pink and sponged the edges with the same ink. I adhered the circle to a pink die-cut scalloped circle and then to a die-cut stitched circle. The lid had a little indentation so I used foam tape to adhere the label to the lid, which filled in that little space and made the label flush with the top. I used some random ribbon I had in my stash and double-sided permanent tape to cover the side of the lid and finished it off with a bow.

This project can be altered for many different occasions. You could stamp a sweet greeting, color a pretty scene, fashion some paper flowers and add some bling. The sky is the limit—let your imagination run!

Have FUN!

Pink Grapefruit Sugar Scrub

  • ½ cup white sugar
  • ½ cup coconut oil
  • Grapefruit essential oil
  • Red food coloring (optional)

Blend sugar and coconut oil together until smooth. Note: I doubled the recipe for this size jar. Add a few drops of essential oil until you get the fragrance you want. If color is desired, add one drop of food coloring at a time. A little goes a long way.

Supplies used: Precious Girl stamp set, Circles dies (#CBD142) and Double Stitched Circles dies (#CBD136) from Our Daily Bread Designs; Adirondack shell pink alcohol ink from Ranger Industries Inc.; Lacey Circles dies (#S4-293) from Spellbinders® Paper Arts; double-sided permanent tape from Kool Tak.

  1. Very pretty and very creative. I love using my printer when I can’t find the right sentiment. And love the recipe. Can’t wait to try it. Thanks!

  2. What a lovely gift idea! I don’t see how the sugar doesn’t dissolve. I now it doesn’t, but some things just boggle my mind. LOL
