TIP: Use your supply of stamps for more then just making cards.

When I am buying stamps, I try to make sure I can use each stamp for more then one creation. Some stamps, such as flower shapes, are perfect for multiple uses. Different inks and different colors allow those images to have a variety of looks. Another idea is to think about other kinds of projects that use stamps like gifts or home decor.

My tip today is to use your stamps to create bookmarks. They can be added to the inside of a card for almost any occasion or packaged as a small gift. Mine were created using a sentiment stamp set that I already had and various flower stamps.

I began by cutting the bases from watercolor paper using a die. A bookmark can also be simply cut from a piece of cardstock in a rectangle shape. I chose to use watercolor paper because I love how the flower images look watercolored.

I also used a sentiment stamp set that contained a number of different sentiments which made it easy to create a variety of bookmarks. The sentiments were stamped with black fine-detail ink and then embossed with clear embossing powder. Heat-embossing the words allows you to add watercolors without the ink running.

Next, I stamped a variety of solid flower images onto the bookmarks using various Distress inks. These inks are good solid colors and they mix with water well. After inking the stamps, I spritzed a small amount of water onto each one and then stamped. For more of a watercolor look, more water can be added. I then set the bookmarks aside to dry.

Supplies used: Wild Hibiscus stamp set from Altenew; Spring Blooms stamp set from WPlus9 Design Studio; A Cheerful Heart stamp set from Papertrey Inc.; VersaFine onyx black ink pad from IMAGINE Crafts/Tsukineko; Distress ink pads from Ranger Industries Inc.; clear embossing powder from Clearsnap Inc.; die from My Favorite Things.

  1. Love this idea, Linda. Your watercolor flowers turned out lovely. It would be handy to make several as you have just to have on hand for when a friend needs a little-pick-me-up.
