What A Great Response!
What a talented and generous bunch of readers we have! Your response to our first call for handmade cards exceeded all our expectations. Day after day, it was a joy and delight to receive all your creative submissions. We were especially touched by the fact that so many of you made time during the busy holiday season to send in cards. Thanks to all your efforts, over 200 handmade greeting cards will be sent to the Letters From Home Program. The cards you see here are a small sampling of your talents.
In case you're just joining us, here's a reminder of how Readers Reach Out works: Look for this column in each issue of CardMaker to find out the upcoming card theme. Then, using the theme as a guideline, create as many cards as you'd like and mail them to the address listed below. Your cards will be donated to various charitable organizations across the country. It is a wonderful opportunity to reach out and send greetings to people who need some cheer and good wishes.
Your Next Theme is . . .
Fall Colors
Your cards will be donated to: Franciscan Skemp Healthcare/Arcadia Campus Nursing Home. Your creative cards will benefit the residents of this nursing home in Arcadia, Wisconsin. Our thanks go to the thoughtful reader who sent in this suggestion.
Your deadline: Cards must be received by May 12, 2008
General Guidelines: Nursing home residents like to send greeting cards just like everyone else, but many do not have the means or ability to purchase or make cards. The cards and envelopes that you send in for this challenge will, in turn, be given to the residents of Arcadia to use for their own correspondence. Your cards may be designed for specific occasions, such as birthday or anniversary, or they may be general, all-occasion cards. Please do not sign the cards, as the residents themselves will be sending the cards to their loved ones.
Your Suggestions Are Very Welcome
We would like this program to benefit people all across the country. If you know of an organization that would welcome handcrafted cards for its patients or residents, please send a note to readerconnect@yahoo.com. Think about group facilities, such as local children's hospitals, nursing homes, cancer treatment facilities and women's shelters.
Many thanks,
Mary Lynn
