Inching Into Spring: Inchie Arts

If you’ve had a chance to look at the digital version of the new spring issue of CardMaker, you probably noticed a fun feature called “Inching Into Spring” dedicated to cards created using inchie squares. These 1 x 1-inch pre-cut squares are extremely versatile and the lovely Lisa from Inchie Arts sent over a selection of squares for us to play with.

One of the things I love about inchies is that the surface is very similar to watercolor paper. Watercoloring is one of my favorite color mediums which is the technique I used on my first card. Use the square (in this instance a 2 x 2-inch Twinchie square) as a stamping canvas. I loved watercoloring this since the colors took to the surface beautifully! Inside secret: I couldn’t seem to get the two images stamped correctly. So, after two mistakes I had Tanya take over so she gets credit for the stamping on this card. :)

Another thing I love about inchies is that you’re only limited to your imagination. The squares can easily be cut into different shapes which is how I created the chevron background on the card shown below. I cut each 1 x 1-inch square in half diagonally and pieced them together. I added a handwritten sentiment to a Twinchie square and some rhinestones to complete the card. For ideas on piecing shapes together, do an Internet search for ”tile medallions.” This will make you see your inchie squares in a whole different way!

Currently, Inchie Arts has three different sizes of squares: 1 x 1-inch Inchie Squares, 1 1/2 x 1 1/2-inch Inchie + Squares and 2 x 2-inch Twinchie Squares. Plus, they are all available in seven different colors. Thank you to Lisa for the fun samples!

Remember, make sure to check out pages 40-49 in our Spring issue for lots more “inchie” inspiration. The print version of the issue will be on newsstands February 5th.
